Zagreb Klezmer Trio brings a distinctive fusion of authentic klezmer music, jazz, classical music, and oriental melodies, creating an unforgettable musical atmosphere that redefines tradition. This genre, known for its expressive melodies reminiscent of the human voice, intertwines melancholy and joy, dance and irony, shaping a rich and complex soundscape.
The trio—Bruno Philipp (clarinet), Mario Igrec (guitar), and Zvonimir Šestak (double bass)—constantly explores new boundaries of klezmer expression, blending diverse musical styles and crafting a unique sound.
Their journey began in 2018 when they came together to reinterpret klezmer music—a genre deeply rooted in tradition yet open to innovation. The clarinet, with its ability to convey sighs, laughter, murmurs, and irony, plays a central role in their sound, making their performances a profound expression of history, culture, and emotion passed down through generations.
Zagreb Klezmer Trio’s performances reflect the versatility of this musical tradition, spanning from classical klezmer to jazz, tango, and oriental folklore influences. Their repertoire also includes original compositions by the trio’s members, all infused with deep emotional power and technical perfection.
On Thursday, February 27, at 7 PM, in Urania – Space of Creation, the trio will present their musical journey, showcasing the transformation of the klezmer genre through various musical styles.
