JazzUrania is a new concert series spotlighting the best of Croatia’s contemporary jazz scene. Bringing together outstanding local musicians and audiences, the series explores the space where jazz, architecture and live performance meet. It also reflects Urania’s commitment to musical experimentation, improvisation and artistic exchange.
The series is curated in collaboration with Wendy Zečić and Branko Kostelnik and presents a selection of some of the most exciting and distinctive voices in Croatian jazz. With a focus on strong musicianship and contemporary approaches to the genre, JazzUrania aims to add a new dimension to Zagreb’s cultural and music scene.
The series opens with B’s FUNstallation, featuring six leading Croatian jazz musicians: Zvonimir Bajević on trumpet and flugelhorn, Mario Bočić on tenor saxophone, Davor Doležal on guitar, Luka Žužić on keyboards, Zvonimir Šestak on double bass and Borko Rupena on drums.
Founded by trumpeter Zvonimir Bajević in 2012, B’s FUNinstallation has spent more than a decade developing a distinctive voice within the Croatian jazz scene. The band has released three albums of original music – Sixto (2015), Blue Line (2018) and Hold On (2022), which earned several Porin Award nominations.
For its JazzUrania debut, the band presents B’s FUNstallation plays Mozart, a fresh take on Mozart’s music through the language of contemporary jazz. Familiar pieces such as Rondo Alla Turca, Ave verum corpus and Eine kleine Nachtmusik are transformed through original arrangements and improvisation, creating a lively dialogue between classical heritage and the freedom of jazz.
After performances at the Amadeus Festival in Bjelovar, Jaska Summer of Culture and the Zrin Festival in Čakovec, the project now comes to Urania, opening a new chapter for the venue and launching a concert series dedicated to the richness and vitality of Croatia’s jazz scene.
