The integration of art into the built environment has always been a reflection of a society's cultural sophistication. However, during the rapid urban development of the 20th century, this aspect was often overlooked, prompting initiatives to reconnect art and architecture.
In Europe and the United States, legal frameworks such as Percent for Art were introduced, ensuring a portion of the budget for architectural projects was allocated for artistic interventions, fostering synergy between these two disciplines. While no binding regulations were established in this region, guidelines encouraged the incorporation of art into public projects such as squares, parks, cultural and administrative buildings, and hotels.
Contemporary trends are reviving this practice, particularly within the hospitality industry, where art has become a key element in creating unique guest experiences. Artistic interventions are also increasingly found in public areas of residential buildings, enhancing their aesthetic and functional value. This trend often carries an educational dimension, inspiring private investors to adopt similar concepts in their own spaces.
At the lecture, which will take place on Thursday, January 23, at 5:30 PM, painter Jelena Bando and architect Tea Ujević will share their experiences and perspectives on the relationship between architecture and art. Jelena Bando, an accomplished painter, is recognized for her work showcased in international exhibitions and residency programs. Tea Ujević, an architect with extensive experience in interior design, is known for her seamless integration of art into her projects.
This event provides an opportunity to deepen the dialogue between art and architecture, focusing on real-world examples from practice.
