Lighting design today is no longer merely a technical discipline – it has become an integral element of architectural composition, a communicative tool for space, and a subtle mediator between functional and emotional experience. These topics will be the focus of the next edition of Creative Hour, featuring guest speaker Jeffrey Huyghe, Belgian product designer and long-time collaborator of Modular Lighting Instruments, where he also serves as Design Director.
In his work, Huyghe explores the boundaries between form, mechanics, and light, creating lighting fixtures that not only meet technical requirements but also fulfill the aesthetic and spatial criteria of contemporary architectural language. His approach is marked by a high degree of engineering precision, subtle mechanical innovations (such as hidden rotation systems), and a clear minimalist expression that never loses its functional purpose.
The lecture will focus on the design processes of lighting fixtures within project contexts – from the conceptual phase and collaboration with engineers and architects to the challenges of actual execution. Case studies will also be presented, including the Adris office building in Jagićeva Street, Zagreb, with interiors designed by architect Vedrana Ergić, where lighting is conceived as a spatial and atmospheric system rather than just technical equipment.
Following the lecture, there will be a conversation with the designer featuring:
Joanna Swiderska, representing the manufacturer Modular Lighting Instruments, who will provide insights into the technical and logistical dimensions of collaboration between design and production;
Renata Zorić from Studio 2RPI, long-time regional partner of Modular Lighting Instruments, who will speak from the perspective of architectural practice and the management of complex lighting systems in real spatial contexts.
As with every Creative Hour, this session is envisioned as an open platform for discussion on the role of design in everyday architectural and urbanist practices, and a space for knowledge exchange across disciplines and levels of expertise.
The lecture will be held in English.
The number of seats is limited, so please reserve your spot here. Admission is free!
