Hotel interiors are not merely a matter of aesthetics – they are spaces for programming experiences, defining identity, and balancing between spatial memory and contemporary needs. The new edition of Creative Hour opens up the topic of hotel design as a layered process where architecture, interior design, operational logic, market expectations, and historical layers intertwine.
On Wednesday, May 28 at 5:30 PM, Urania – Space of Creation launches a new edition of the Creative Hour program, exploring the complex relationships between architecture, interior design, and hotel typology. This session will focus on spatial narratives, strategies for transformation, and the redefinition of hotel environments in the contemporary context.
Participants in the discussion include:
Dean Franić, one of the region’s most prominent interior designers, will present his work on the renovation and transformation of the legendary The Bristol Hotel in Belgrade. Rather than simply restoring the original form, Franić’s approach involved recontextualizing the existing space, redefining the floors and their functions, and implementing contemporary standards through the lens of spatial identity. The Bristol has thus become a successful synthesis of heritage and modernity – an architectural narrative that respects the past while speaking the language of the present.
TRIKA, a project partner, took on the role of FF&E consultant, responsible for furniture selection and delivery, while actively participating in defining the atmosphere and tactile codes of the space. The focus was on creating a sophisticated yet warm ambiance through timeless pieces that merge aesthetic coherence with functional excellence. Their approach combines design and logistics, ensuring that the spatial narrative remains consistent from the reception area to the most intimate corners of the guest rooms.
Originally designed by Nikola Nestorović between 1910 and 1912, Hotel The Bristol was a symbol of urban Belgrade and a home to many historical figures. Today, after years of restoration and collaboration with the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments, it once again holds an important place on the city’s urban and cultural map.
This professional dialogue uses the Bristol case to open up broader questions:
This event explores the transitional zones between typology, poetics, and functionality.
