ZvUQ (Zagreb Unlimited Quintet)
/ Ana Batinica, Iva Ledenko, Eva Fritz, Bogdan Bikicki, Petar Kšenek /
Co-funded by the City of Zagreb
Creative Hour at Urania continues its collaboration with ZvUQ (Zagreb Unlimited Quintet) - a new chamber ensemble that explores music as a space of dialogue between art, society, and the individual. After their first concert Peace of Mind, dedicated to the theme of mental health, the ensemble’s second program in the cycle Important Dates by ZvUQ continues to investigate the relationship between acoustic and ethical space, this time in anticipation of International Children’s Day.
The concert Fantasy Tales raises questions about children’s perception of music, imagination, and play as fundamental ways of understanding the world. The program is intended for children under twelve, but also for anyone wishing to rethink how we listen and how we hear. Sound, image, and movement intertwine in a format that blends art and education, offering an experience that does not instruct, but invites shared discovery.
Zagreb Unlimited Quintet is composed of Ana Batinica (flute), Iva Ledenko (oboe), Eva Fritz (bassoon), Bogdan Bikicki (clarinet), and Petar Kšenek (horn) - musicians who hold solo positions in the Croatian National Theatre Orchestra and the Zagreb Philharmonic. Their collaboration emerged from a desire for deeper reflection on the role of musicians in society and the wish to bring chamber music closer to the everyday lives of audiences.
In the Fantasy Tales program, ZvUQ explores the imagination of childhood through works by Claude Debussy and selections from the Disney film repertoire, arranged for wind quintet. Through children’s illustrations, the concert is shaped as a multilayered audiovisual event in which Debussy’s Children’s Corner dissolves into drawing and movement, opening a space between music and image, between what is heard and what is seen.
As in the previous programs of the cycle, ZvUQ uses music to reflect on themes that transcend the concert setting - here, the question of how children experience art and how art can shape their world.
The collaboration between Urania - space of creation and ZvUQ within the Creative Hour cycle continues to build a shared space between architecture, sound, and thought - a place where art is not only performed, but attentively listened to.
This program is co-funded by the City of Zagreb.
