On Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at 5:30 p.m., at Urania – space of creation, the second lecture in the series Space as a Narrative Medium will take place, organized by Muze and Urania, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia and the Goethe-Institut Kroatien.
The program “Space as a Narrative Medium”, marking 20 years of the creative team Muze, explores space as a tool for interpretation, experience, and storytelling. Through a series of public events, lectures, and workshops, the program examines how architecture and exhibition design shape the perception of narrative and meaning in contemporary museum practice.
The guest of this edition, Noel McCauley, architect and co-founder of the Berlin-based studio Duncan McCauley, will hold a lecture titled Narrative Works!, dedicated to museum and exhibition design as narrative and experiential structures. Over more than two decades of international practice, his work has become recognized for integrating architecture, interpretive design, and immersive media to foster dialogue between space and audience.
Drawing on examples such as the Jewish Museum in Berlin and San Francisco, the Völklingen Ironworks, the James Simon Gallery on Museum Island, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, McCauley will demonstrate how space can become a carrier of narrative - shaping both the emotional and intellectual experience of visitors.
Lecture at Urania
The lecture will address key themes in the relationship between space and storytelling:
Following the lecture, a moderated discussion will be led by Dragana Lucija Ratković Aydemir (Muze), opening a dialogue between the architectural, museological, and design communities on the potential of space as a medium of interpretation.
Workshop at the School of Design
The following day, October 16 at 9 a.m., Noel McCauley will lead a specialized workshop at the School of Design, aimed at architects, designers, curators, and museologists. The workshop will focus on exploring the relationship between narrative and spatial dramaturgy in exhibition design.
